Using the “Ctrl + A” shortcut is one of the most commonly used Excel shortcuts, but there are many other keystrokes you can use to get around the software much quicker. Whether it’s to insert a new line in a cell, quickly select a range of data or even to move back up to the top of a worksheet – there are lots of not so well known shortcut keys to learn.

Do you have a long list of data and want to know how to quickly sum it up? The formula is quite easy to remember and very quick to use: Simply type in =SUM(Cell1:Cell2). This will instantly add up all the numbers in a contiguous range without any extra input or work from you.

When entering a series of numbers into a cell it can be annoying when the leading zeroes disappear. To keep them, simply enter an apostrophe before the number – this will tell Excel to treat it as text rather than a numeric value.

Do you often work with large spreadsheets that require a lot of scrolling? Do you find yourself using the Page Down or Up arrows to navigate the rows and columns? Try this not-so-common trick – pressing Command (Ctrl on PC) and the up arrow will take you straight to the top of your worksheet!
