Liposuction Information

Having laser lipo on stomach done is a common cosmetic procedure that can help people with excess fat. The procedure involves using a thin tube called a cannula to remove fat.

How long does pain last after laser lipo?

Liposuction can be performed with local or general anesthesia. The process takes about two to three hours depending on the amount of fat to be removed. The patient may need to stay overnight in the hospital.

Patients should arrange for a person to drive them home from the hospital after the procedure. After the surgery, the patient should wear a compression garment. This will help reduce swelling and bruising. The garment should be worn at night and during the day for a few weeks.

The recovery process is important for proper healing. Usually, the skin will contract and shrink during the first week after the surgery. During the first week, the patient should not perform strenuous activities. A firming cream may be applied to tighten loose skin.

Some patients may require an elastic bandage or compression garment for a few days after the surgery. These garments will prevent bruising and help the skin to adjust to its new size.

The risks of liposuction are reduced by being performed by a board certified plastic surgeon. However, there are some complications. If the patient experiences pain, swelling, or bruising, contact the hospital.

Some liposuction patients will need to have additional procedures performed to get rid of extra skin. They may also need to take some time off work. Typically, the patient can return to work within a week.
